Completing Tasks
Mark tasks done when the work is finished so your team sees accurate open work lists.
When to use this page
Closing tasks keeps Home, Tasks, and project views trustworthy during crunch periods.
Who can do this
Assignees and other project editors can complete tasks.
How to complete a task
Quick complete
- Open Tasks or the project Tasks section.
- Change status to Done, or check off the task if a checkbox is shown.
From the task board
- Go to Tasks and switch to Board view.
- Drag a task card to the Done column, or open the task and set status to Done.
Reopening a task
If work is not actually finished, edit the task and change status back to To Do or In Progress.
Next steps
- Completed tasks leave open task lists on Home and Tasks.
- Project activity records the status change.
- Reports include completed tasks when the tasks section is enabled.
Good to know
- Completing a task does not archive the project.
- Overdue tasks should be completed or rescheduled; see notification settings for overdue emails.
